December has been designated National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Impaired drivers are involved in nearly one-third of all deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the United States, taking almost 30 lives each day. According theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this amounts to one death every 51 minutes. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $59 billion.
If someone is arrested for drunk driving, it’s often a red flag of a larger problem: alcohol misuse and abuse.
