Today’s tip for health and happiness covers action with intention.

When we act without conscious thought, we become sloppy and reckless.

When we act without conscious thought, we forget that each situation is unique – and that what worked for us on another day may not work for us now. Or, what worked for someone else may not work for us in this particular case.

Let’s say you’re having a problem with someone in your life. It could be anyone – a friend, coworker, partner, child. You have the best intentions to fix the problem, but your desire to find a quick and painless solution leads you to the internet.

You Google your issue, whether it’s medical, psychological, relationship-based or something else. On the web, you come across stories about people who have experienced a similar challenge as the one you’re facing.

You find what you think is the “answer,” band-aid the issue, and close the book on this story.

Only trouble is, what the problem (and the other person) really needed was your individualized attention.

Have you noticed that even with all the technology at our fingertips, people are communicating less? That is, instead of getting to the heart of the matter, we’re barely skimming the surface. We talk frequently and to many people… but our conversations often lack the substance that helps us connect intimately with other human beings. Might this explain why we feel so out of touch and unhappy so, much of the time?

Listen. Think. Communicate. Deliberate.
